Prof. Dr.-Ing. Lamia Messari-Becker is a German with African roots, civil engineer, policy advisor, professor for building technologies and building physics at the University of Siegen in Germany, wife and mother of two children. She grew up in Morocco and got her Diploma and PhD at der Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany. She worked between 2009 and 2014 for an international engineering office, leading several projects in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and other countries.

Lamia’s engagement, research and projects focus on sustainable design of building and cities. She stands for a holistic view of sustainability in building design and urban planning and calls for more integration of these fields in any strategy of sustainable development. Her view of challenges regarding resource conservation, climate change, equal education opportunities, access to energy, water and care and other sustainable development goals is a global one. These challenges can only be solved by accepting the complexity and developing a view for different needs together.

Lamia is a former participant of the International Visitor Program of the US-Government (during the tenure of Secretary of State Mr. Colin Powell).

Lamia is a member of the German Advisory Council on the Environment (period 2016-2020).
