On the occasion of the UN Summit of the Future, the St. Gallen Symposium and the New York University School of Professional Studies will host a high-level dialogue on ways to leverage the power of intergenerational leadership in business and government. The event is part of the New Generational Contract, a joint initiative of the St. Gallen Symposium and The Club of Rome.

In light of critical challenges such as climate change and responsible AI, shifting from a short-term focus in decision-making to prioritising societal impacts that will last for generations will be key. As research in organisations suggests, a better balance of different generational perspectives in the leadership structures of businesses and governments could help accelerate this shift. Yet, even though they hold the greatest stakes in the future, younger generations are largely excluded from the decision-making bodies shaping their lives. For example, only 18% of global parliamentarians are under 40, while the average age of corporate board directors stands at around 63.

A key goal of the UN Summit of the Future, taking place on 22-23 September in New York, is to develop more ambitious measures on how the UN and member-states involve younger generations in political processes. Therefore, on the occasion of the Summit, the NYU School of Professional Studies and the St. Gallen Symposium are delighted to invite you for a high-level event on September 20, from 4:00 to 6:00pm at NYU SPS Midtown Center, 20 W 43rd St, 4th floor. Together, we will explore the potential and the practicalities of embracing more intergenerational leadership models to future-proof decision-making in the public and private sectors.

After about 60 minutes of thematic discussion, some drinks and snacks will be served to continue our exchange.

Speakers include: Angela Sun, Member of Board of Directors, Cushman & Wakefield, Western Union, Marie-Claire Graf, Co-Founder, Youth Negotiators Academy; Councilor, World Future Council; fmr. Member of Swiss UNFCCC Delegation, and Mamphela Ramphele, Honorary President.
